This month at Live Life Moving, I’ve been thinking a lot about the Pilates principle of Concentration—not just because it improves your workouts, but because it supports something even more vital: your brain health.
Joseph Pilates said it best:
“A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of doing sloppy calisthenics or forced contortions.”
That quote is a reminder that how we move is just as important—if not more—than how much we move.
Concentration in Pilates Helps Improve Your Brain
When you move with focus, you’re doing more than strengthening muscles. You’re also:
Building new neural pathways (this is called neuroplasticity),
Improving your ability to learn new skills, and
Reducing stress, which plays a huge role in cognitive decline.

That’s why I’ve designed our sessions to strengthen your ability to concentrate:
✅ We ask you to remember movements as you progress. I stop re-teaching everything and start challenging your mind to recall what your body already knows. It’s a subtle but powerful shift.
✅ We train without music so you can tune into your breath, your body, and your coach’s voice without distraction.
✅ We keep chit chat to a minimum—but yes, I absolutely LOVE catching up, so we build time into the beginning of your session for connection and conversation.
✅ We repeat key sequences often, so instead of trying to learn something new every session, you get to refine how you move—and build true confidence in your body.
Focused movement isn’t just good for posture or flexibility. It’s a daily practice that can protect your mind, improve your mood, and keep your brain sharp—at any age.
